reconnaître, il me dit juste « kalimera ».
Ça a commencé à 16h30.

« The album –
guide you are holding in your hands, is a small tribute to a piece of
land, which is rare and unique and which affected my emotions, and
attracted me like a magnet, since the first time I visited it.
I visited the island for
the first time as a common traveller in the 1980's. Leaving the
place, something deep inside pushed me to come back. I was lucky
enough to come back to it a decade later. So, in the 1990's, I was
given the opportunity to visit the island twice. First in 1995, on
the occasion of publishing a small scrapbook, issued by an Athenian
editor at that time. Then in 1999 for the needs of a publication in
Candia journal, 6th issue August – September 1999.
Through endless hours of walking and searching, I was lucky enough to
get to know the island entirely. There was always something which
made me go back. I managed to visit the island again in September
2011.
The journey round the
island, during my visits, was fascinating ! The change of the
scenery and natural landscape was evident on each step. The first
time I had seen a neglected island, without any infrastructure and
any means of transport. Fortunately, as I realized during my last
visit, the modern civilization had not spoiled the greatness of its
simplicity. It remains intact even today, ready to welcome and get to
know the travellers.
Ever since I first
visited the island, I was fascinated ; I was tied to it, just
like another Ulysses. For years I was turning over in my mind the
idea of creating something, which I could share with the rest of
people in the whole world : my love and admiration for this
place, which was getting stronger and stronger. To offer all those
pictures my eyes admired, the shots of a special world, through my
own lenses.
Get indulged in the pages
that follow. Feelings cannot be transferred ; each one of us has
their own way of perceiving things, so they are unique. Try to awaken
your feelings, enjoy the fragrance of the place, the colours and its
magic. Besides, magic is not something that can be described. Man can
only feel, understand and experience it.
Who wouldn't like to find
this earthly paradise ? To be carried away form the everyday
routine, known up to now, as the well-known bustling cultutre, to a
dreamy place, which generates diverse and unique feelings to its
guests... The only thing that someone has to do, is travel to Gavdos.
An island full of trees, such as pines and cedars, either one close
to the other or in small forests standing on their own, in places,
where human mind cannot imagine. Green makes its presence felt at
every step and comes to tie seamlessly with the blue, creating a
unique blend. The breathtaking beaches, covered in endless golden
sand and crystal clear waters.
It is a place that
radiates a mysterious energy and can either keep someone calm or
charge him emotionally with countless feelings. It's an island which
blends someone with invisible shakles. And that's not an
exaggeration.
In recent years, Gavdos
has become more popular mainly through the media and attracts
countless visitors worldwide. However, although it is a most popular
destination, it still retains its isolation, its tranquility and
serenity, which made it so special in people's heart. There are some
tourist facilities on the island, developed recently, while most of
the travellers are campers, who, in their simplicity, want to
experience a different lifestyle. The truth is that, anyone who comes
once to Gavdos, will feel the desire to come back over and over
again. It is as if they took a silent oath, a secret deposit of the
soul. »
